As we begin our Lenten journey, you are invited to participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl. Throughout Lent, we will pray, fast, learn and give as a way to reach out in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world. The HOPE Middle School Youth Group will be distributing Rice Bowl packets after each mass in the weeks to come. Please be sure to take one home and follow this simple yet powerful Lenten practice.

Fridays during Lent - 5:45 p.m.

The Stations of the Cross will be prayed every Friday during Lent beginning on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 5:45 p.m. in the Church. This traditional Lenten devotional practice is a devotion in which we accompany, in spirit, our Blessed Lord in His sorrowful journey to Calvary, and devoutly meditate on His sufferings and death.

Wish You Knew the Bible Better?

Genesis to Jesus looks at the whole story of Biblical history as the series of covenants that God has made with His people from creation through the present. Over the course of seven weeks, you will learn how all of the various covenants that God made with His people in the Old Testament are fulfilled in Christ and the Church.

This is precisely the way that the Church reads the Sacred Scriptures in the Liturgy; we see the promises proclaimed in the Old Testament fulfilled in the New. This study is a great introduction to the Bible with something for everyone, from beginners to more advanced students of Scripture.

Classes start Tuesday, January 31st for 7 weeks and each class will be offered three times each week:

Day Time Place
Tuesday 1:00 p.m. Church
Thursday 7:00 p.m. Sacristy (12 people only)
Sunday 6:30 p.m. Church

The cost for the entire course is $15.00 to cover participant workbooks and expenses.

We need to know if you plan to attend so that we may order enough workbooks. Since the Sacristy is small, we must limit the Thursday evening number of participants to 12. You may fill out the registration form below, or call the parish office at 520-568-4605.

Note: This course is one of four courses developed by the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology headed by Dr. Scott Hahn. We also hope to offer the other three courses in the future, The Bible and the Mass, The Bible and the Virgin Mary, and The Bible and the Sacraments.

Cursillos in Christianity is a movement that, through a method of its own tries to, and through God's grace manages to; enable the essential realities of the Christian to come to life in the uniqueness, originality, and creativity of each person. In becoming aware of their potential and while accepting their limitations they exercise their freedom by their conviction, strengthen their will with their decision, to propitiate friendship in virtue of their constancy in both their personal and community life.

The Cursillo Movement consists of proclaiming the best news of the best reality: that God, in Christ, loves us. Communicated by the best means, which is friendship towards the best of each one, which is his being person and his capacity of Conviction, Decision, and Constancy.

And what needs to be emphasized today, now, and immediately in order to be on the cutting edge of today's debate is to facilitate and make possible for every person to encounter oneself always and absolutely essential in order to be able to encounter God and others.

If you wish to learn more about the Cursillo® Movement, please order "Cursillo - What is it?" (publication 719) from the on-line Cursillo® Bookstore or contact your Diocesan Cursillo® Movement Secretariat.
